Vaginal Dryness - Usually During Menopause
Causes of Vaginal Dryness Vaginal dryness (atrophic vaginitis) is usually associated with menopause. The ovaries stop producing estrogen causing a hormonal imbalance. Usually, the body lubricates the vaginal walls with a tiny layer of moisture when sexually stimulated. However, hormonal changes during menopause can disrupt this process. Furthermore, drops in estrogen levels can also change the PH levels decreasing the acidic content of the vaginal fluid making it more alkaline thus more prone to infection. Vaginal dryness can range from mild and slightly annoying to more severe conditions. Studies suggest that 40 - 60 % of women experience vaginal dryness in the transition during menopause. Symptoms of Vaginal Dryness Include - Vaginal Itching
- Painful Intercourse
- Vaginal Burning
