Marigold : (Calendula officinalis) Marigold is a hardy anual that prefers full sun and grows well almost anywhere, from well drained moist rich soil to poor soil. It grows well in boxes, in gardens or in pots. It grows from seeds and it is often self seeding and produces a rich bright orange or yellow flower. Uses of marigold The flowers can be chopped and used in fresh salads or other dishes as rice, soups and eggs and can be used in the cheese making process as well as in milk, deserts and cakes. Marigold is said to have antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. The marigold flower is said to provide relief to bee stings if rubbed on to the affected area. Marigold is also believed to have anti-fungal properties and is believed that a mixture or extract of marigold leaves soothe and give comfort to tired feet.
